Type Locality and Naming

Western Yunnan. The Formation was named by the 20th Geological Team of Yunnan Geological Bureau in 1963 and introduced by Wang Jude in 1977. The type locality is located at Lichaiba of Baoshan County, Yunnan Province (99°09′E, 25°14′N).

Synonym: (栗柴坝组)


Lithology and Thickness

It is dominated by red, purple, gray argillaceous limestone, marlstone, interbedded with calcareous shale and siltstone. The thickness of this formation is various in different areas, 272-554 m in Lushui of Baoshan, 59-200 m in Shidian, and 177 m in Zhenkang area.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation is conformable with the underlying Renheqiao Fm

Upper contact

The formation is conformable with the overlying Niushiping Fm

Regional extent

It is distributed on Baoshan, Shidian, Fengqing, Zhenkang areas of western Yunnan Province.

Fossils

The fossils are abundant,bearing conodonts Hindeodella equidentata, Neoprioniodus multiformis, Ozarkodina media; graptolites Monoclimacis vomerina; M. vomerina subgracilis, Pristiograptus dubius; trilobites Proetus sp., Meitanillaenus sp., etc.
